Overview Created a mobile game for Android of an Endless Runner game where you play as a ranger running through a automatically generated running environment with obstacles, targets and power-ups to obtain to get the highest score! |

Design The design of this game was originally to be a re-playable game where collecting the coins would give you upgraded accuracy, speed, and unlock new endless running levels. That was cut short by other projects taking over, but Jessica and I turned the game into a high-score based game to finish it. The design is inspired by temple run, but we wanted to demonstrate a slower paced shooting style runner that would require more than just reaction time. We wanted to make it more about destroying the obstacles over just dodging them, especially since the random generation could potentially make an impossible series of obstacles. Technical Design This game was an attempt at combining the skills of procedural generation that I learned during another canceled project and trying to make something simple but more polished (mechanically). I had a blast putting together the maps, the way things spawn, the way the character and projectiles interact with the obstacles, I tried to make it systematic and easily editable as we brought more custom made assets into the game. This allowed a really foundational structure and made it possible to edit and add the the game without having to break an entire structure to continue. |
